The Intel RealSense Depth Camera SR305 has a streamlined form factor, uses the open source Intel RealSense SDK 2.0 and is being offered to developers at an amazing introductory price to open them up to the exciting possibilities of depth.

What is Coded Light? ​Coded light projects a known pattern onto a scene and evaluates how this pattern deforms on surfaces in 3D. By analyzing this deformation, the Intel RealSense vision processor inside the camera can calculate the depth and surface information of the scene. The SR305 uses multiple different coded light patterns that change over time to increase the accuracy of the depth image. The camera also features a 2MP RGB sensor to allow for fully textured and colored depth points.

Perfect for beginners to depth ​For developers who are new to Intel RealSense products, this camera offers the perfect low-risk place to start getting your feet wet. As a low cost plug and play peripheral, the camera can provide 640x480 depth resolution at 60 frames per second. Even better, since the camera uses our Intel RealSense SDK 2.0, any applications you build will work with any other Intel RealSense depth camera. Our SDK 2.0 is designed for all Intel RealSense products, so all of your hard work will remain supported by any of our products, including future generations of cameras.

Short on range, long on uses ​The Intel RealSense SR305 is a shorter range depth camera, optimized for best depth at 0.2-1.5m. As with other structured and coded light depth cameras, it functions best indoors or in a controlled lighting situation. It can also function well at lower light levels down to 0 Lux, since infrared light is being projected onto the scene from the camera. Applications for the SR305 include: face analytics and tracking, scanning and mapping, scene segmentation, hand and finger tracking and augmented reality.

Q2: Can I use this camera outdoors? ​A2: As with all coded and structured light cameras, this device will perform best indoors or in controlled lighting conditions.

Q3: What are the hardware requirements? ​A3: Our onboard Vision Processor performs all the depth computations, which allows us to provide depth to numerous platforms at low power. The Intel RealSense SDK 2.0 is platform independent, with support for Windows, Linux, Android and MacOS. We also offer wrappers for many common platforms, languages and engines, including Python, ROS, C/C++, C#, Unity, Unreal, OpenNI and NodeJS, with more being added constantly.

Q5: Can multiple SR305 cameras be used simultaneously? ​A5: Because of the nature of coded light depth cameras, each camera added to a scene will interfere with others around it, reducing the quality of depth output. If your application requires multiple depth cameras in one space, please consider using one of the D400 stereo depth cameras, which do not interfere with each other.

Q6: What are some of the usage recommendations for this device? ​A6: SR305 is recommended for short range indoor applications such as object recognition, 3D scanning, background segmentation and 3D enhanced photography.
